There is currently new and alternative advice on total hip replacement precautions.
Total hip precautions are still the standard practice for hip replacement procedures. These usually include using equipment to carry out basic tasks and also limit leg movement/bending. However this maybe counter productive according to the Orthopaedic Therapy Team at a Norfolk Hospital, and the patients maybe less likely to dislocate if they have more movement.
Patients will now be encouraged to move however they feel comfortable in the first few weeks after the operation.
‘For patients, they will no longer have their lives limited and will feel happier about the surgery’ says Orthopaedic Therapy team leader Anthony Morgan from James Paget Hospital, Great Yarmouth.
